I am currently the acting Chief Review Officer while Graham Stoop completes an assignment for the Minister of Education over the next few months. I look forward to many interactions and discussions with sector agencies and groups during this time.

The Education Review Office is making it easier for parents to find out about the quality of an early childhood service.
As part of its new approach to reviewing early childhood services, ERO has introduced four different review return times. Each one is connected to an overall judgement about how well placed a service is to promote positive outcomes for children. The better placed a service is to promote positive outcomes, the longer the time between education reviews.
The Education Review Office has published another booklet for parents.

ERO has revised its criteria for review timing decisions for schools and kura.
During Term 3 ERO published several national evaluation reports of interest to schools. Some of these reports will have already been sent to you in hard copy. All our reports are available to download through our website at www.ero.govt.nz.
In August 2012, the Minister of Education announced the Government’s response to the recommendations of the Ministerial Inquiry into the Employment of a Convicted Sex Offender in the Education Sector.
As part of this response, the Education Review Office will be seeking assurance from schools and kura about the quality of their processes for appointing staff.
