The Education Review Office reports publicly to the Government, boards of trustees and management committees, and parents and whānau on the quality of education and the performance of schools and kura kaupapa Māori, early childhood services and kōhanga reo, and private schools.
The Review Officer carries out reviews of schools and early childhood centres and, from these reviews, prepares reports that are made available to the public. The Review Officer works on individual reviews either as a team member or a team coordinator.
A key feature of the Review Officer’s role is relationship management. Review Officers are required to work as members of teams and with a wide range of stakeholders in the education sector, from principals and managers to parents. Review Officers also need to gather information in a manner that is not prejudicial to the future relationships between the Education Review Office and the schools/centres.
Every designated Review Officer is required to abide by the Education Review Office Code of Conduct.
This Code sets out the standards of integrity and conduct expected of all Education Review Office employees as well as expectations that are specific to the performance of the functions and exercise of the relevant statutory authority by a designated Review Officer.
The Review Officer should have a university degree or tertiary equivalent and be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuing their professional development.
The Review Officer must hold a current driver’s licence and be prepared to undertake travel including overnight stays.
