Provision For International Students
Compliance with the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students and the Provision of English Language Support
ACG New Zealand International College is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students (the Code) established under section 238F of the Education Act 1989. This is a requirement of all schools that enrol international students in terms of the Act. Schools are also required to provide English language support for their international students.
The college complies with all aspects of the Code.
Of the 439 students on the school roll, 428 are international students. ACG NZIC caters primarily for students who wish to gain foundation studies certificates leading to admission to The University of Auckland or to the Auckland University of Technology. Students whose level of English is not at the standard required for the foundation courses are able to enrol in an intensive English language course run through the ACG English School.
The principal and staff at both the Parnell and central business district sites have a strong commitment to providing high quality pastoral care and English language support for international students. Student accommodation is arranged by the Student Accommodation and Welfare Services located at the Parnell campus. A centralised database contains comprehensive information about all students. The monitoring of homestay providers is regular and thorough. An ACG residential support person is employed to monitor the safety and wellbeing of students who live in the hostel, Princeton House. This licensed hostel meets the requirements of the Ministry of Education. Students interviewed stated they felt safe and secure at the hostel.
The Welfare and Accommodation Guide for International Students booklet contains useful information for students, as do the handbooks for students attending the ACG Parnell campus and ACG English School. Students are well supported at AGC New Zealand International College.
