Appendix 3: The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992

"Every employer shall take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of employees while at work; and in particular shall take all practicable steps to:
- provide and maintain for employees a safe working environment
- provide and maintain for employees while they are at work facilities for their safety and health..."
- Section 28: Employees may refuse to perform work likely to cause serious harm
"An employer may refuse to do work if theemployee believes that the work that the employee is required to perform is likely to cause serious harm to him or her..."
A school's decile indicates the extent to which a school draws its students from low socio-economic communities. Decile 1 schools are the 10 percent of schools with the highest proportion of students from low socio-economic communities, wheras decile 10 schools are the 10 percent of schools with the lowest proportion of these students.
