Promoting Pacific Student Achievement: Schools' Progress (Web Only)

This 2010 report is the second the Education Review Office has published on the educational achievement of Pacific students in New Zealand schools. The evaluation looked at the achievement, engagement and presence in school of Pacific students, and progress made in the three years since the previous report.

ERO found that, while attendance had improved in most schools and fewer Pacific students were involved in disciplinary action, 40 percent of schools did not monitor Pacific students’ attendance.

Many schools could report progress only in terms of the whole student body, rather than breaking this down so there could be a focus planning for the achievement of Pacific students.

Schools that were succeeding in raising the achievement of Pacific students has good links with parents and the Pacific community, often to the extent of nominating a person in the school to have responsibility for Pacific liaison.
