The Quality of Teaching in Years 4 and 8: Technology (April 2005) :

Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum describes technology education as a “planned process designed to develop students’ competence and confidence in understanding and using existing technologies, and in creating solutions to technological problems.”

In a high quality technology programme students are engaged in purposeful and meaningful learning. Programmes build on students’ existing knowledge, and skills and teachers support, guide and challenge students’ thinking and development of their ideas.

Effective learning in technology contributes to the intellectual and practical development of students, as individuals and as informed members of a technological society.

ERO reviewed the teaching of technology in all schools having an education review during Term 4 2004 and Term 1 2005. Good practice in the teaching of technology is also presented in this report.
