Science in the New Zealand Curriculum is one of seven curriculum statements covering the essential learning areas of the New Zealand curriculum. ERO evaluated the quality of teaching in science at Years 4 and Year 8 over Terms 2 and 3, 2003.
This study is the first in an ongoing series of evaluations by ERO examining the quality of teaching for specific learning areas and skills in alignment with the Ministry of Education’s National Education Monitoring Project (NEMP).[1] While NEMP assesses student achievement, ERO’s specific focus is on the quality of teaching.
