Māori medium kura are reviewed by Te Uepū ā-Motu, ERO’s Māori Review Services team. ERO publishes its reports on these kura in te reo Māori and in English.
ERO and Te Rūnanga Nui o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori have developed a review process for Te Aho Matua kura, and special review material is available (see below under frameworks and evaluation indicators). For other kura, including kura ā-iwi, kura Māori, and kura motuhake, the review coordinator will discuss the scope of the review at the beginning of the process.
ERO’s frameworks for reviews explain the review process in a transparent and easy-to-understand way. The evaluation indicators are used to inform the judgements ERO makes when reviewing. They help school trustees, principals, teachers and others understand the basis for ERO’s judgements.
Te Maru o Ngā Kura a Iwi and ERO have developed and completed a trial of methodology and indicators for use in Ngā Kura a Iwi. This information is in draft can be accessed by contacting Te Uepū ā-Motu.
The pre-review questionnaire has been replaced by some reflection questions which have been designed to help you get the most out of your external evaluation. Click here to read more.
Before a review ERO asks boards of trustees and whānau of kura kaupapa to complete a statement that assures ERO of its compliance with its legal obligations and official requirements. The Assurance Statement includes a checklist, which the appropriate body completes and returns to ERO.
ERO invites feedback about the review process from schools that have been reviewed in the past year.
We invite each school to submit two questionnaires – one representing the views of the board of trustees (through the chairperson) and one representing the views of staff (through the principal). Or you can choose to submit one questionnaire that represents the collective views of both trustees and staff.
Your feedback will be help us evaluate and refine our review processes.
