Hidden curriculum

What is learnt is not necessarily what is deliberately taught. It is often a result of unspoken values and principles. E.g. "Everyone can learn maths but girls should be congratulated for a good try" or "Not bad, for a girl" have the hidden suggestion that girls can't really be expected to do well in maths. The hidden curriculum can undermine students' belief in their ability to succeed.
