Ms Barbara Mavor, Manager Evaluation and Policy
Barbara manages the evaluation team responsible for national evaluations and special projects. She works with the Deputy Chief Executive, Evaluation and Policy, principal evaluator and manager of insights to set the work programme for the year, aligning evaluations with areas of key interest and the government’s vision for Education: Shaping a stronger education system with New Zealanders.
She has been with the Evaluation and Policy team for 7 years. Prior to that she has been in senior management in three secondary schools in Hawke’s Bay and in Wellington. She moved to Wellington for the weather – it’s too hot in Hawke’s Bay. She also spent 6 years as an ERO reviewer, based in Napier and loved to work up the East Coast, which reminds her of home in Scotland.
Barbara came to NZ as a recruited teacher in the 70’s having survived teaching in Inner London. Her degrees are from St Andrews and Oxford Universities.
Barbara is a keen and competitive sailor, racing with the Lowry Bay Yacht Club in a 9.5m keel boat. Relaxing is sailing in the Sounds, knitting and enjoying the antics of her granddaughter.
