Data collection took place as part of regular, scheduled education review of early childhood services in Terms 1, 2 and 3, 2008.
Data was gathered from:
Early childhood services were asked to complete a Service Self-reporting Documentthat identified the focus of recent self review; outlined the process used; indicated whose perspectives contributed to the review; identified factors that impacted on self review; noted changes to practice as a result of self review; and recorded any outcomes for children. Each service evaluated its self review in terms of what was working well, and what could be further developed or improved. The ERO review team used this information to plan the review and to inform discussions with management and educators.
ERO analysed the 2005 reports of 107 services that included a focus on self review, and compared the findings with their 2008 education review reports.
