The Education Review Office (ERO) and Te Rūnanga Nui o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa (TRN) are working together to capture the journey of learners who have experienced Te Aho Matua education, Poutiria te reo Mauriora.

Background

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rito is in Ōtaki. Te reo Māori me ōna tikanga are embedded across the kura. The kura philosophy is underpinned by Te Aho Matua and Whakatupuranga 2000. Raukura have returned and are now active members of the teaching staff.

Our school stands tall on tribal land of ART, Atiawa, Raukawa, Toarangatira, supported by the beam of Te Aho Matua. Surrounding us are our marae, the pou of our kura is grounded in the four guiding principles of Whakatupuranga Rau Mano, Generation2000. Our marae is our principal home, Māori language is a taonga, our people are our wealth and we strive for our self-determination. At the centre of everything is humility.

A leader leads by kindness.

A learner learns knowing they are supported.

A child of Te Kura kaupapa Māori o Te Rito wholeheartedly believes in the value of caring, where ever they may go, and are very settled in their beautiful language.

This is a safe haven, as we say, Te Aho Matua is shelter, tikanga our guide and love for one another our instruction.

Raukura kōrero

  • One unique aspect of KKM is that kaiako readily support whānau, not just the child. That’s a major help. They role modelled to us what was right.

  • It was left to us to lead these things and when we got to the marae, we already knew how to do it all.

  • I want my whānau to promote and use te reo Māori in everything that they do.

  • It felt like home. It was a whānau. The whole kura is a whānau.

  • I know who I am.

  • Here the kaiako are like your parents.

  • To me, I am overjoyed that my children are here, that my children are a part of this world. There is no better world for them.

Our purpose

The Education Review Office (ERO) and Te Rūnanga Nui o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa (TRN) are working together to capture the journey of learners who have experienced Te Aho Matua education, Poutiria te reo Mauriora.

Background

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rito is in Ōtaki. Te reo Māori me ōna tikanga are embedded across the kura. The kura philosophy is underpinned by Te Aho Matua and Whakatupuranga 2000. Raukura have returned and are now active members of the teaching staff.

Whānau Statement

Ko te whānau o Te Rito tētahi tōpūtanga whānau nō te takiwā o Kāpiti, Horowhenua. Nō te tau 1989 i tū ai tō mātou kura kaupapa Māori. Nō te tau, 1988 ka tīmatahia tō mātou kōhanga reo, ko Te Kākano o te Kura Kōhanga Reo.

Ka whakatūria a Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rito hei kura reo Māori, tikanga Māori hoki mō ngā tamariki nohinohi o Te Kākano me ngā kōhanga reo o te kainga otiia o te takiwā.

Nō te mārama o Hakihea i te tau, 1989 i whai mana ai tō mātou kura kaupapa Māori i raro i te Ture Education Act, 1989 wāhanga 155A. I te tau 1990, ka tū te kōhanga reo ki te whenua o Te Rauparaha, nā Te Pōari o Ōtaki me Porirua, i te rā 5 o Oketopa, 1991 ka tūwherahia te kura, ā, nā Te Arawa ngā karakia ka tākina kia reo Māori anake te whenua me ōna whare o Te Kura Kaupapa o Te Rito.

Our school stands tall on tribal land of ART, Atiawa, Raukawa, Toarangatira, supported by the beam of Te Aho Matua. Surrounding us are our marae, the pou of our kura is grounded in the four guiding principles of Whakatupuranga Rau Mano, Generation2000. Our marae is our principal home, Māori language is a taonga, our people are our wealth and we strive for our self-determination. At the centre of everything is humility.

A leader leads by kindness.

A learner learns knowing they are supported.

A child of Te Kura kaupapa Māori o Te Rito wholeheartedly believes in the value of caring, where ever they may go, and are very settled in their beautiful language.

This is a safe haven, as we say, Te Aho Matua is shelter, tikanga our guide and love for one another our instruction.

Raukura kōrero

  • One unique aspect of KKM is that kaiako readily support whānau, not just the child. That’s a major help. They role modelled to us what was right.
  • It was left to us to lead these things and when we got to the marae, we already knew how to do it all.
  • I want my whānau to promote and use te reo Māori in everything that they do.
  • It felt like home. It was a whānau. The whole kura is a whānau.
  • I know who I am.
  • Here the kaiako are like your parents.
  • To me, I am overjoyed that my children are here, that my children are a part of this world. There is no better world for them.

Before the evaluation, the board of trustees and principal completed the ERO Te Poumarumaru Assurance Statement and Self-Audit Checklists. In these documents they attested that they had taken all reasonable steps to meet their legislative obligations related to:
