Our purpose
The Education Review Office (ERO) and Ngā Kura ā-Iwi (NKāI) are working together to capture the journey of learners who have experienced a Ngā Kura ā-Iwi education, Whāia Ngā Ara Painga Kia Angitu Ai.
Background
Te Kura o Hīrangi places a strong focus on the wellbeing of uri, whānau and the community. The kura whānau recognise ‘Te huarahi o Ngātoroirangi’ and ‘Tūwharetoatanga’ including the preservation of kawa and tikanga of Ngāti Tūwharetoa ki te Mātāpuna. The whānau acknowledge that ūkaipōtanga, ahikā and haukāingatanga are important indicators of iwi wellness. Strong partnerships with kaumātua, iwi and marae are valued and critical to the vision for uri.

Manu Pīrere Kōrero
It started from kōhanga reo, our whole Māori journey.
It was quite a breeze to go from taitamariki into taiohi and into wharekura.
That’s where the haka and music side of me started rolling and that’s kind of where I found out where I wanted to be, what I wanted to do.
It’s another home.
I love that kura, it’s with my whānau.
I feed the principles of this kura to these kids.
It was very Māori. Tikanga marae was embedded.
