What you need to do
You must tell us if you need to temporarily relocate your licensed early learning service for a short period of time. If you do not tell us, you might be in breach of the Education and Training Act 2020.
You need to tell us:
when you intend to relocate
how long you intend to relocate for
the reason you are relocating

Apply for a temporary relocation licence
If you want to temporarily relocate your service, you must apply by completing an EC2 temporary relocation application form. Send it to the Education Review Office.

How long you can temporarily relocate for
You can temporarily relocate for up to 10 months.
If the relocation is likely to exceed this period, a temporary or permanent closure may be more appropriate. Discuss this with the Education Review Office.
Conditions your proposed premises must meet
Alternative sites are often not designed for early learning services. They may not fully meet all the regulatory requirements.
Under Regulation 18, a temporary relocation licence can be granted for short-term use. We will need to assess the premises before you relocate to determine whether a specific condition needs to be applied and to grant a temporary relocation licence.
Before moving to the temporary site, the premises must have a fire evacuation scheme in place. If the Building Act 2004 applies, you will need documentation to show the premises comply.
This may include a:
Code of Compliance Certificate
current Building Warrant of Fitness
Certificate for Public Use.
The space must be large enough for the number of children on your licence to meet Schedule 4 of the Education (Early Childhood Services) Regulations 2008.
