Designated assembly areas outside the building keep children safe from further risk.
Guidance
How to show you are complying
Hospitals are required to have evacuation plans in place, with safe assembly areas. The assembly areas should be checked to prevent children or adults from being trapped. The areas should also be separated from where Fire and Emergency New Zealand staff and vehicles are likely to be if they need to respond to an emergency.

Evacuating from above ground level
It may be more difficult to evacuate children from centres that are not at ground level. A specific guidance tool is available for ECE services based in high rise buildings.

Why is this important?
By having a designated safe assembly area in place, medical staff and adults in the service will be well placed to support children in the service during an emergency.
